Review
This was the WORST book in the series thus far. It's too long and nothing happens for like 80% of the book. Majority of the book is just Poppy and the gang trying to rescue Casteel. It was so boring and pointless. I think this series would've been so much better as a trilogy instead of a blatant cash grab series.
It's just dragging at this point and every book is so long and wordy for no reason. There are so many scenes that could've been edited out because they add zero substance to the book. For example, the "joining" scene was so irrelevant. Did we really need a whole chapter of them having a threesome? I obviously skipped that chapter because I didn't care. Also, why was Casteel such a wuss in this book, like in the other three books he was such a badass and didn't back down. I really hated what JLA did to him in this book.
Kieran is a snake. Tell my why this man was flirting with his best friend's wife, while Casteel was being held hostage and tortured? Poppy keeps going on about how much she loves her heartmate/husband, yet happily flirts with his best friend. The throple plot line was absolutely fan service, because for it to just be thrown into the FOURTH book in the series makes zero sense. If she made them throple from the beginning, fine, but she didn't. From the first and second book, Poppy and Casteel were written to only have eyes for each other and to be deeply and madly in love with one another, so why on earth are they a throple now. Kieran's character really irritated me during this whole book. Like, he had his own love interest in the third book but then suddenly he's interested in Poppy. I've never seen Kieran and Poppy as love interests, their banter has always been like brother and sister.
Why does Poppy have new powers in every book and why does JLA keep changing the kind of magical being that Poppy is? It's kind of annoying now, it feels like she can't pick one plot line and stick to it, which is also why she threw in the throple plot line.
BONUS
ASOAAB is literally just FBAA but from Casteel's perspective!! That's supposed to be the FIFTH book in the series! It could've been a novella at the end of the series, like we waited so long just for FBAA 2.0 as a 5th book. There were 12 chapters that were in the present and only two of them were actually relevant. I literally just skimmed through the present day chapters to find any important information. How can you call that a fifth book, when the main character is not in the entire book?
JLA has truly ruined this series and it's safe to say that I most likely will not continue this series. I hate Poppy and Kieran.
