This book was not a cute and light-hearted romcom. There was nothing funny, cute or romantic about it. Also, why on earth is this book so long?? I think this is the longest romance book I've ever read. The MCs had no romantic chemistry, just a lot of sexual attraction, which for me is an automatic ick. I felt like the authors tried too hard to make the book "inclusive". I say this because Bee is a sex worker, she's plus size, has lesbian moms, Nolan is bisexual, and the costume designer is gay.
I actually really enjoy Hallmark Christmas movies, so I thought I could be able to put aside the insta-lust and lack of romance just for some fun holiday scenes. Boy, was I wrong! The book focused way too much on the lust between Bee and Nolan and didn't deliver on the "Hope Channel"Movie. I thought the idea of the MCs meeting on the set of a Hallmart-esque movie was so cute, but the authors greatly missed the mark with it.
Bee was bland honestly, the only thing she had going for her was being a fat adult film star. I really hate when authors pick something about FMC and make that her entire personality. How many times did they need to mention that she's fat? Her whole personality was being sex-positive, which became boring really fast.
Nolan was clearly some kind of sex addict/ porn addict. It felt like every chapter there was a scene of him jerking off with the stupid gingerbread lotion. Why did this man have notifications for his porn app enabled on his phone? He had no genuine romantic feelings for Bee and only saw her as an objective for his sexual gratification. All of his internal monologues were all sexually charged towards Bee. Honestly, his whole POV was irrelevant.
Overall, I didn't enjoy A Merry Little Meet Cute by Julie Murphy and Sierra Simone. The cover is so cute and screams Christmas, however the book did not deliver on this aspect. The MMC was insufferable, the book was too long and had too many inner monologues that could've been cut out. The mental health rep was atrocious and kind of disrespectful. If you're looking for a funny, Christmas romcom, then I do not recommend this book.
