Review
A huge disappointment! The premise of this book sounded so interesting, two serial killers who fall in love? Sign me up! I'm very interested in true crime, so this book seemed like it would be right up my alley. There were so many things that the author did wrong. Let's get into it.
The time jumps were really annoying. Five pages into the book and there's already a one year time jump that takes the reader out of the story. In those five pages, we've really learned nothing about the characters or even how they go into the situation that they were in. The time jumping happened frequently throughout the book and came across as lazy and sloppy. It felt like Weaver didn't know how to connect things and write a continuous flow of plot, so she just inserted time jumps so we just end up at the "big plot points" without getting much backstory or research from the characters.
The MCs motivations for being serial killers was so weak, almost laughable. To me, it came across as a way to make the reader want to root for them because they "only kill bad guys". If they were killing anyone, then it would make the MCs morally grey and harder for the readers to root for them. But they basically just kill because they want to.
The lack of research that the they do to find their "victims" is ridiculous because Ronan's brother does all the research and staking out for them and they basically just show up to the location and kill them. It added to the feeling that this book was rushed, but also that the author spent more time establishing Ronan's brother and Sloane's best friend as characters because they're going to be the MCs in the second book in the series. Also, why did their inner circle know that their serial killers? Do they just casually go around telling people that they're serial killers. I'm sure that real life serial killers aren't just going around telling all their friends and family about their exploits. Aren't they supposed to secretive about it and want to on the dl.
There's just so much telling and not enough showing. So many important plot points happened but we never see them unfold, they just get told to us later in a passing conversation. We never get to see the clean up after the murders, we also hear about it after the fact off page. What's the point of writing a book, if you never show any of the important/ interesting things on page? It felt like the author just wanted to write a smutty book but felt like she had to have some sort of plot, I honestly think she should've just made it purely smut, because the plot was not plotting. Also, the smut scenes were so graphic and honestly, kind of gross. Sorry, not sorry.
His OBSESSION WITH HER B**BS WAS SO ANNOYING!!!!!!!!!
Overall, I did not enjoy this book at all based off of the points mentioned above. I would not recommend.
