Review

King of Battle and Blood is literally just vampire p*rn, there's no plot or substance. I'm not sure why the book started out with a lot of info dumping and world building if none of those were the main focus of the plot. I've read St. Claire's Hades X Persephone Saga  and while it is quite spicy, there is a plot that is not just about sex. I actually quite enjoyed that series, which is why I decided to read King of Battle and Blood . I quickly came to realize that King of Blood and Battle has no substance to it at all and aspect of the book is lacking.

The first spicy scene happened so early in the book, that it just ruined the angst and forced marriage trope. There was no angst or real chemistry between the MCs, they only lust after each other.  If St.Clair just wanted to write purely smut, then she should've written this on AO3 or Wattpad or something because a 400 page book of smut is not it, especially if the book promises an actual plot line. I do enjoy reading some spice but not an entire book of it.

Why does this book have misogynistic undertones? All the female characters were demonized and made to be against the FMC. Isolde was the ultimate pick-me. In the first ten pages of the book, she brags that she has bigger breasts than the other girls and has a more "womanly" figure. She's clearly not a girls-girl. Also the fact that she's the only girl who can fight, be so for real. Isolde tried too hard to show that she was a strong woman, being mean to everyone does not make you strong, it makes you a bully.

Adrian is an emo vampire king. That's it.  He kind of felt like a Casteel dupe, if you've read FBAA, then you get what I mean. Honestly, Isolde felt like a Poppy dupe too.

There's no plot, just spice, boring one dimensional characters. I don't recommend this book if you're looking for an actual plot.
