The Last Heir to Blackwood Library by Hester Fox had a great premise, but ultimately the execution was not well done.

⭐️⭐️/⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Review
The concept for The Last Heir to Blackwood Library, sounded very interesting and like it could be a fun whimsical read. Instead, the idea was poorly executed and dragged on even though the book is less than 300 pages. Fox's writing is very clunky and over explanatory of insignificant things. I really expected this to be a fast paced read, but it was quite boring for most of it and it really only started to pick up around the 75% mark, which for me automatically decreases the rating. The staff at Blackwood Abbey wouldn't just tell Ivy what was going on but instead chose to skirt around the topic every time. It was slowly making me lose interest in the book.
Ivy was one of the worst and most boring MC's I've ever read about. She has zero personality other than she likes books... good for her I guess. She's supposed to be a strong independent woman, but she literally makes the dumbest decisions which puts her in danger. Ivy didn't seem to have common sense at all throught the entire book. She's twenty five years old, but she reads like a teenager. Also, I found it interesting that she wanted the staff to call her by her Christian name because she doesn't believe in classism, but will tell the staff to call her Lady Hayworth and point out that they're just lowly servants when she doesn't get her way or doesn't want their advice. Ivy was very arrogant and stubborn. She felt more like a plot device than the main character who is supposed to drive the plot.
Overall, I was quite disappointed by The Last Heir to Blackwood Library because it did not live up to the synopsis that was provided on Goodreads and on the back of the book. There were many things that were brought up and then never explained again, almost as if the author forgot about it. I would give it a try, but don't have high expectations.

Spoilers! Spoilers! Spoilers!

I can't believe how naive Ivy was. She really got engaged to a guy she knew for all of a week or two and had only been on like three dates with him. It was very obvious that he already knew who she was when he approached her, but she is literally so dumb that she didn't notice anything suspicious. I really hated how obvious Arthur's whole plan of marrying Ivy so he can take over Blackwood was and how obvious it was that he was the villain from the beginning. Everything that happened was so predictable. The "plot twist" of Ralph being the Hewitt's son was not a plot twist because it was very obvious from the beginning that he was their son. The previous relationship between Ivy and Ralph made zero sense and seemed to just be thrown in there. Ivy was so passive the whole book, this was especially clear when her journal is torn up and she doesn't bother trying to find who did it and just gives up keeping a journal, basically accepting her fate of losing her memory. Also, she knows that something is strange about Blackwood Abbey, but doesn't do any digging to find out on her own when the staff won't tell her anything. "I'm not going to tell you." "Ok." It was so infuriating. Ivy was so oblivious to the fact that Ralph clearly had feelings her...smh.
