Review
Dating Dr. Dil was such a breath of fresh air for me as a romance reader. I'm so used to only reading about cis-white couples that it kind of became stale. Don't get me wrong, I still eat it up, but I just wanted something different. Nisha Sharma understood the assignment and delivered. In the romance community, there aren't many South Asian romance authors, so when I heard about Dating Dr. Dil, you know I had to read it.
Sharma dives into the South Asian family dynamics with a cast of characters (nosy aunties) and portrays the reality of many South Asian woman once they're in their twenties and early thirties. The pressure of settling down, getting married, and starting a family while getting a degree and having a career all before age twenty five. Kareena constantly being nagged by her dad and grandma to get married because she's thirty, which means "she's now a hag" in the South Asian community. Once you're over the age of twenty five, you're just considered a hag who no one will want to marry.
Kareena is one of my favourite FMC because she's such a badass. She doesn't get caught up in what her dad and grandma want her to do. Kareena was strong and independent, she got her degree, built a successful career for herself and was planning to purchase a home all without needing a man. She was quite the opposite of Bindi who needed a man in her life to feel fulfiled. I really liked how Kareena was firm in what she wanted for herself.
Prem was swoonworthy! He did not fit into the stereotypes of South Asian men that certain South Asian writers love to portray *cough Mindy Kaling cough*. Prem and Kareena were so cute! I loved their banter, it was adorable. The spicy scenes were ten out of ten. I was blushing so hard and squealing during all the spicy scenes. I'm going to be honest, I did not expect that from this book. It was even more dirty than the usual spicy romance books I read.
Overall, I throughly enjoyed Dating Dr. Dil and will read anything that Nisha Sharma publishes. I highly recommend it to everyone who loves a good enemies to lovers romance.
